The Martin 51. Respond to adults.2. Make eye contact.3. Respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas.4. When walking in line keep your arms at your sides, and move quietly.5. No matter the circumstances, always be honest. These are the five overall rules at Martin. Each grade level is expected to follow these rules and consequences are left up to the particular teacher. At each grade level an additional rule or practice is implemented. For example, in third grade on top of the Martin 5, the specific new practice is sneezing and coughing into your arm. The students discuss why this is important and also why it is better to sneeze into your arm verses your hand. In both my third and first grade placement, my teachers used some sort of behavior chart to determine how the students were doing and what the consequences of their behaviors are. Both teachers chose to make their students walk laps at recess as a form of discipline, instead of always having them sit out a certain amount of minutes during their recess. I have included pictures of both placements' behavior charts.
